Play guide
Start playing a story
Pick a story, choose who you play, and begin with your own words.
Browse storiesBegin a chat
- Browse stories or search for a genre, character, or premise. Open a story to read its setup, cast, and available openings.
- Sign in to start a chat. Choose an opening if the author offers more than one, then choose or create the character you want to play.
- Reply as your character. The AI writes the narrator and other characters, and the scene follows what you do next.
Make the scene your own
A story's opening is a starting situation, not a fixed path. You can ask questions, investigate, speak to someone, or change your mind. Be specific about your character's actions when the AI needs something concrete to respond to.
Your chat is private even when the story is public. You can find ongoing conversations in My chats.
Best practices
- Write what your character attempts, rather than dictating what another character thinks or decides.
- If a reply misses a detail, correct it in your next message or use the chat's memory controls for a fact that must persist.
- You can change models during a chat. Different models may favor different pacing and styles, and their credit costs vary.
