Chats
Find your chats, play them, and set each one up the way you like to read.
Every story you play becomes a chat of its own. This guide covers your chat list, what you can do inside a chat, and the settings that change how it reads.
Your chat list
Open your chats by selecting My chats in the header. Your chats are listed from most recent to oldest.
At the top are filters. Played as sorts your chats by Star, which is what we call your persona, and Story sorts them by the story's title. Each filter appears once you have more than one to choose from.
The buttons on each chat let you, in order:
- 1Bookmark
- 2Favorite
- 3Pin to the top
- 4Rename
- 5Put away
- 6Delete
Putting a chat away archives it. Use it for chats you want to keep but aren't playing anymore. Deleting a chat is permanent.
Once you've put a chat away, a Put away link appears at the top of your list, with a count beside it. Select it to open your archive, where you can see every chat you've put away and bring any of them back to your main list.
Inside a chat
Opening a chat takes you to the bottom of its history, so you read the most recent reply first.
You'll see your own replies and the AI's. Each reply is labelled with who wrote it. The story's title marks a reply the AI wrote, and your Star's name marks one you wrote.
Hover over a message to see its options:
- Copy copies the whole message.
- Edit opens the message so you can change it, or the header attached to it.
- Branch starts a new chat from that moment, so you can see what would happen if you had made a different decision.
- Rewind takes the chat back to that message. Every message after it is deleted, along with any memories made from them. The message you rewind to stays.
- Delete permanently erases that reply, both from your view and from the AI's context. Everything after it stays.
Rewind doesn't appear on the newest message, because there's nothing after it to take back.
Replying
At the bottom of the screen is where you type your own message. This is how you respond to the AI. Send adds your message to the chat, and the AI starts writing its reply.
Context
Context shows how much of the context each part of the story uses, and how much you have left before you hit the ceiling. From here you can also increase your context size and check that lore is firing properly.
Model
Next is the model writing the replies. Select it to open a menu of every model available and how many credits each one costs per reply. The box beside the list gives a quick summary of the model: its pros and cons, any special features, and what it's best at writing.
Continue and Regenerate
Continue tells the AI you've chosen to do nothing. The story carries on without your character responding or taking any action.
Regenerate gets you a different reply. You can pick a different model, or simply try again to see if you get a better response.
Regenerating keeps the earlier versions. Use the arrows on the reply to flip between them, so you can go back to one you liked better.
Show or hide controls
Show controls brings up the bar at the top of the chat. It shows the story's title and information, and the buttons to favorite the story, report it, or delete the chat. Where gifts are available, you can also send the author a gift from here. Hide controls puts it away again.
Delete here deletes the whole chat, the same as deleting it from your chat list. It asks you to confirm first, and it can't be undone.
Chat settings
The settings menu lets you adjust how the chat works and how it looks.
Playing as
Change who you're playing as by picking a different Star. This doesn't change your previous replies, and it may confuse the AI.
Text size
Make the text whatever size is most comfortable for you to read.
Reply length
Reply length gives the AI a guide to how much text it should send you. The result can vary a lot between models. If one model is giving you too much text, set it shorter, but remember to switch it back if you move to a different model.
Cast pictures
These are the portraits beside the chat. Choose how large you want them, or turn them off.
Location backgrounds
Turn location backgrounds off if you'd rather have a solid color behind your chat. Below that, you can adjust how clearly the backgrounds come through.
Font and colors
Choose your font, and the colors for text, dialogue, and italics.
Temperature
Temperature is set automatically to whatever the author chose. We recommend leaving it alone until you're more comfortable with roleplaying, because it can greatly affect the quality of the replies you get. It's explained in more detail in Writing your own story.
Stream replies
With streaming on, you watch each reply appear as the AI writes it. Turn it off to have each reply appear all at once when it's finished.
Memory
Memory opens the memory panel, which stores every memory your chat has generated. A memory is generated every 10 messages and kept in this panel. You can also generate one yourself here, write one yourself, or edit a memory that was already generated.
Your instructions
Last, you can add your own instructions to guide the AI. For example, tell it which direction you'd like the story to go, add a piece of lore you want included, or give it a direction for tone.
