Writing your own story · 02
Plot
The setup the AI reads on every turn: how the story got here, and how it should be written.
Plot is sent to the AI on every turn. Keep it concise, and limit it to what the AI actually needs to know at all times.
What to put here
Plot is where you set up your story. Give the AI the backstory it needs to understand how the story got to where it starts.
It's also a good place for tone and themes, so the AI knows what style to write in.
The AI needs it on every turn
- Backstory: how the story got here
- Tone
- Themes
The AI needs it only some of the time
- Events
- Secrets
- Anything that only matters in certain scenes
Freeform or guided
Plot can be written in one of two ways.
Freeform
Add anything you want to the box and format it however you like.
Full controlGuided
A set of categories chosen for you. Fill in the ones you want, and the formatting is handled for you.
Good if you're newGuided mode gives you these categories: World Info, Setting, Premise, Timeline, Themes, Tone, Pacing, and Things to Avoid. You don't have to fill them all in. Any category you leave empty isn't shown at all. If you're new, guided mode is a helpful way to learn what goes in Plot, and it formats everything for you.
What you fill in
What the AI receives
# Setting A mountain village shrine, the night of the first snow.# Premise A fox god has marked Aki as hers, and the village wants to know why.# Tone Eerie and quiet, with flashes of dry humor.
Empty categories are left out completely, and {{user}} is replaced with the reader's name.
Every word in Plot is sent on every turn. Keep it to what the AI needs to know all the time.
