Models, credits, and context

Understand why replies vary and how long chats keep their story straight.

Choose a model

A story author chooses a starting model, and a player can switch models in their own chat. Models differ in writing style, speed, and credit cost. Check the current model menu and Credits page for the price of the one you choose; prices and availability can change.

Temperature controls variation: lower values tend to be steadier, while higher values allow more variation. If a reply feels repetitive or unpredictable, try a different model or temperature before rewriting the entire story.

Give the model useful context

A model can read only a limited amount at once. A story's Plot, Rules, and main cast are recurring context, while relevant tidbits are selected as needed. As a chat gets longer, older exchanges may be summarized into editable memories. Review those memories when an important promise, discovery, or change goes missing.

If a character seems to know something they should not, check whether it was placed in always-available plot or cast text, whether a tidbit triggered too broadly, or whether the chat memory stated it as common knowledge.

Best practices

  • Put stable, starting facts in Plot and cast descriptions; move conditional details into tidbits.
  • Keep Rules focused on instructions the AI must follow every turn.
  • Check the Credits page before choosing a more expensive model or larger context setting.
